Today is a Chökhor Düchen day, the Festival of Turning the Wheel of Dharma. This day Buddhist’s communities around the world commemorate as the day when Shakyamuni Buddha gave first Dharma teaching.

First teaching, the essence of Buddha’s teachings is called the Four Noble Truths: the truth about suffering, the truth about the cause of suffering, the truth about the end of suffering and the truth about the path.

Four Nobel Truths teaching carry within the entire Buddhist’s path and application of them leads us to liberation.

“…Then, with the light of compassion, you, a lion among men,
Summoned Indra and Prajāpati (Brahmā),
Who arrived with a majestic, melodious sound
And a blazing thousand-spoked wheel of gold.
They urged you to turn the sacred Dharma Wheel,
And, upon a throne supported by five-headed lions,
You sounded your fearless roar
Of threefold formulation.
You turned the precious wheel, unknown in former ages,
In unsurpassable ways, heard up to the very summit of existence,
And eighty thousand deva sons and daughters saw the truth,
As your renown extended unto existence’s peak….”
