Sangter Foundation - square

The main idea behind the creation of the Sangter Foundation is to support the development of Sikkim – one of states of India, located in the Himalayan Region, at the foothill of Kanchenjunga.
Under the auspices of Sangter Tulku Rinpoche, a Buddhist teacher, abbot of two Buddhist monasteries from Karma Kamtzang lineage, a group of volunteers from Poland and other countries has been working on improving the quality of life of people inhabiting this mountainous region.

South Sikkim is a region at the foothill of the third highest peak of the world – Kanchenjunga.
The area is scarcely populated, mountainous, subject to rough Himalayan climate, with poor road infrastructure and majority of population living of agriculture. It is a very ethnically diverse region, with extremely rich history and culture. It is also in a dire need of help, and this is what the Sangter Foundation, supported by people of good will, is trying to do.

TEAM

Sangter Foundation - square

The success of Sangter Foundation is a result of a joint effort of Sangter Rinpoche followers and students as well as friends, volunteers, sponsors and supporters from all over the world.

We introduce and start international projects and cooperation in order to gather sufficient funds, knowledge, equipment, and human potential to achieve our objectives.

That is helping to create an efficient health care system in region, increasing the quality of life of local communities, providing education, and protecting the culture of this region.

We also happily support other initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life and human health, predominantly ones thanks to which we can do something good for the others, irrespectively of geographical location and circumstances.

This year’s last day of the holy Saga Dawa month was marked with many generous deeds. Sangter Tulku Rinpoche blessed over 80 families with his prayers and together with Sangter Foundation made important offerings of food rations.
Thank you Sangter Foundation family, for your incredible support and hard work for this continuation of the food rations distribution project.
Because of the current situation of the necessary social adjustment, many citizens of Sikkim were and still are out of work and therefore their everyday life changed.

As a continuation of previous activities within this project and to support the most affected in nearby communities of Mangbru, Hingdam, Lingzo, Chujachen, Lamaiing, Samsing today we distribute packages of food rations for over 80 households (most of them contained rice, onions, cooking oil, salt, tea, lentils, soap).

Venerable Sangter Tulku Rinpoche with Sangter Foundation family would like to express his thank you word to all supporters from near and far for your contribution and good heart within this long-term project.
Special appreciation goes to the wonderful volunteer's team that is helping tremendously during this project: Agya Pem Dorjee Lasungpa, Agya Karma Dorjee Bhutia, Agya Tashi Gyamtsho Bhutia, Agya Landrup Bhutia, Agya Tenzing Pintho Bhutia and most special for Sir NT Lucksom.
Also, our thanks go to IC KEWZING OOUPOST – Shri Pempa Sherpa to depute staff for a day.

Saga Dawa day (26.05.2021) is reminding us of the Birth, Enlightenment and Paranirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha and about the cycle of impermanent human life.
For us, during current circumstances with all sickness, chaos and illness manifestation, it is more a day to contemplate than to celebrate.
Especially, it is a time of reminding us that our life and everything is impermanent, that human life is ending with death. This is also to show to us what we are really doing now; we are sleeping. We should quickly realize it and wake up because if Shakyamuni Buddha life was impermanent so the same condition affects our existence here. In future, we will also leave this Universe. And this is the most profound teaching to remember for this day.
When we realise that our lives come to end we should also reflect on ourselves, on our character, actions, determination and motivation. On all things which drive us through this life. Also on our responsibility in this life, that through our actions, we can benefit ourselves and other sentient beings and do many good actions for others.
Today, as we observe how many people are dying or being sick, this condition makes us very sad. But we should remember about the impermanence of all manifestation. Good things become bad things, but also bad things convert into a good thing.
With a strong, full of loving-kindness positive heart, good motivation and the right dedication to our actions, we don’t need to panic. We need to understand. This is what we call impermanence; of our actions, thoughts, circumstances and situations.
This coming from the heart of our loving-kind dedication and our understanding of impermanence is the most important for our present and future; for our whole life.
Please remember to be helpful to others and do not judge others, this is not a time of judging and commenting on other’s life and actions, the life of our sisters and brothers. If you can not help and you don’t want, please refrain from negative deeds, stay away from commenting on others life and actions. Commenting and judging others creates bad circumstances and this in consequence creates again sickness, sadness and failures in life.
As long as we are here, there is no time to waste, so please concentrate your efforts on how you can improve your own behaviour and accumulate actions that make your life more meaningful. We should appreciate what we have and believe that by working together we can create more benefit.
Meanwhile, always remember that all power and material thing are also impermanent.
Please go on with your life with wisdom and loving-kindness at your heart. Without these four wheels; love, kindness, compassion and wisdom you can not go smooth through, the turbulence of your life. Without even one lacking you can not reach your direction and destination. Only with all four going together all your aspirations will be fulfilled.
Your every day is auspicious, your daily life, practice, living with others under good developed four wheels always are auspicious; in every moment, in every second of your life.
By the time, you still have your life, you can do something meaningful.
Stay safe with a good, peaceful heart.🙏💗

Today, Buddhist communities celebrate Tampei Düchen, in which Buddha Shakyamuni’s birth is celebrated. Düchen but its own means “Great Occasion” and this day is the single most holy day of the year for Tibetan Buddhists.

In these hard days of sorrow, fear and uncertainty for many of our brothers and sisters in India, Sikkim and Nepal, we, Sangter Foundation Community, stand with you in praying and doing whatever we can to supports those in need.

Venerable Sangter Tulku Rinpoche would like to express his deep gratitude and appreciation to the Sahara Samaj Group from Hospital Road in Ravangla.
Especially for that coming from the heart initiative linked with a huge effort in cleaning and removing waste from Mane Chokhor Ling Monastery surroundings.

This very kind and generous-hearted group of people, volunteers, spent all day cleaning monastery surroundings and making our everyday life, Himalayan surroundings closer to nature with less waste.

Thank you for your kindness, effort and the offering of your hard work. Your commitment is visible, it returns our Himalayan surrounding more to nature, also gives hopes and a fine example to others.
Many Tashi Delek and again: "Thank You"🙏💗🍀.

Sangter Rinpoche biography

Sangter Foundation - square

Venerable Sangter Tulku Rinpoche is a reincarnation of terton Dorje Lingpa. Born in Sikkim Venerable Sangter Rinpoche was formally recognized as a Tulku from the Nyingmapa tradition.

His education begins at the Institute of Higher Nyingma Studies - Deorali Shedra in Gangtok, Sikkim, India, where he studied according to Nyingma tradition. Venerable Sangter Tulku Rinpoche continues his education at Namdroling Shedra in Karnataka, South India for the next two years.

Then he studied and completed the three-year meditation retreat in Benchen Monastery Retreat Center in Pharping, Nepal under the guidance of Kyabye Tenga Rinpoche and His Eminence Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche.

Although he is responsible for his own monasteries in Sikkim, in appreciation for his dedication in working for the Benchen community, Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche and Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche, consider him a Rinpoche from Benchen monastery.

Venerable Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche recommended fully Sangter Tulku Rinpoche as a Buddhist teacher, underlining that people can rely both on his education and his meditation experience

During the summer course in the year 2010 in the Buddhist Centre in Grabnik Venerable Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche said:
"When Sangter Tulku Rinpoche reached the age of seventeen or eighteen, he was with His Eminence Chatral Rinpoche. At that time, Chatral Rinpoche made a prophecy for him, by saying: 'it would be a great benefit for your future if, for your further education, you go to Benchen Monastery'. So then, around the age of seventeen or eighteen, he went to Benchen Monastery and entered this tradition. He started studying all the necessary monastic rituals and other things. Eventually, he went to the three-year retreat centre in Benchen Retreat Centre known as Benchen Drubde Osal Ling in Pharping, Nepal. He did the three years and seven-months intensive retreat. I consider him a very good practitioner. During his three-year retreat, he definitely managed to gain excellent experiences and realization. Especially, Sangter Rinpoche loves me very much. He has given all his heart to me and I always consider Sangter Rinpoche as one of the tulkus, one of the Rinpoches of Benchen Monastery".

Sangter Foundation and its objectives

Sangter Foundation - square
rinpoche

The main objective of Sangter Foundation projects in Sikkim is to create an efficient, basic health care system available to all inhabitants of the region. Because of very poor road infrastructure and difficulties to reach some areas of Sikkim, access to health care is seriously hindered or, in some places during winter and monsoon, even impossible.

We, as Sangter Foundation, want to change this. We want local people to know that in case of a disease, an accident or labour there is a place nearby that can provide them with quick and efficient basic medical help. For us, it is essential, that such help does not require people to travel a long distance to health care centres and does not require huge expenditures either. We think medical care should be widely available, easily accessed and delivered with kindness and care.

At present we are focusing mostly on:

  • building new or adapting the existing infrastructure for medical purposes,
  • supply existing buildings with all necessary equipment
  • organizing the transfer of knowledge, skills and human resources to make this procjets happen

We are also working tirelessly to build the foundations for future generations of healthcare worker, by creating an education system that would educate future nurses, midwives, natural medicine therapists and health-related medical sciences, representatives.
All these objectives are accomplished by our main medical project that focuses on everything health-related: the Sangter Foundation Clinic.

In our vision, a Clinic is a place where doctors, physiotherapists, midwives, herbalists and other medical professionals representatives are trying to do their best to make medical support, both conventional and natural medicine, accessible to all the Sikkimese.

Do you need more information or maybe do you plan to actively participate or support projects of Sangter Foundation Clinic?
Or maybe are you interested in travelling to Sikkim and work “on the ground” with our projects?
Please let us know by emailing us at office@sangterfoundation.org

Other activities

Projects

Sangter Foundation - square

We believe that our initiatives will have long-term effects in the form of improved quality of life and health status of the Sikkimese.
We also invest in quick, short, very much needed actions, like help in organising medical transport for patients to other regions, when help cannot be provided on site; or more emotional projects like buying crayons, sweets or shoes for children from Sikkimese schools.

Do you see yourself supporting one or more of our activities? Do you know an interesting project or initiative that we could get engaged in?
Do not hesitate to email us at office@sangterfoundation.org
